There is a purpose that God intends to fulfill in everyone’s life. We were solely brought into this world to carry out and perfectly fit into His plan for us.
He carefully guides His children, reconciled to Him through The Blood of Jesus, in the path of life while those who drift away from Him to follow satan, entirely miss out on His precious plan and purpose for them.
In this article, we shall be looking at talents, gifts and calling and the role they play in fulfilling destiny.
TALENTS
What are talents?
Talents are innate, natural abilities given to Man by God that are passed down from parents. You do not need to struggle to do what you are talented with, it flows effortlessly; Sometimes, you may require skill or training to fine tune it.
Some examples of talents are:
1. Singing
2. Playing instruments
3. Dancing
4. Ability to make inventions
5. Cooking
6. Artistic ability, vision etc
7. Technical ability
8. High Intelligence Quotient
Although talents come to us naturally and are part of God’s provision (investment) for our lives, they are not evenly distributed to everyone but by divine orchestration, God gives everyone what is due to him or her.
Talents however, can be ignored, neglected, compromised, corrupted, misused or abused, thus they cease to glorify God. (Matthew 25:14-30, Lamentations 5:14; Ezekiel 28:13&15)
As believers, God expects us to use our talents to glorify Him. They are not to be exploited as money-making ventures or attention-seeking avenues. They are primarily to bless God, then Humanity.
He meets our needs through them, only according to His will.
For example:
If you are a talented singer or musician, the primary purpose of that talent is not to make money, it is to minister to God and Man. The Giver, God wants to reach out to people through that talent.
You could have invested in that talent by acquiring more skills in school or training at a cost and now decide to make a living from it because you bought instruments, or even employed other people to work with you; While it is not wrong to get paid for events because it is now a profession, prioritizing the main purpose of the talent is key! It is therefore mandatory for you to stand in the place of prayer, studying God’s word and living by it and having a very healthy relationship with God to sustain and bring glory to His Name with the talent at all times.
These requirements are the same for all talents, otherwise satan will hijack it without the possessor’s knowledge, it will lead him or her to the path of destruction and finally, hell.
(Please note: The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29)
Some careers are born out of talents.
THE GIFTS
What are the Gifts?
They are supernatural gifts that are specially, divinely given by The Spirit of God, also known as The Holy Spirit.
No human being is capable of passing down these gifts to another, they are only manifested in whom God has deposited them for the benefit of all.
There are nine Spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12) to help The Body of Christ navigate through the darkness of this world as they preach the gospel of Christ, share His love and give hope to this dying world.
The gifts of The Spirit are the Gifts of Healings, Faith, Working of Miracles, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Discerning of Spirits, Prophecy, Different Kinds of Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues.
God also gave us the gifts of men, called the five-fold ministry. (Ephesians 4:11-14)
These are Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers.
It is their collective responsibility to equip the saints for the work of the ministry and to edify The Body of Christ till we all come to the unity of faith and to the knowledge of the Son of God, a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. They are also to ensure that believers are not deceived by cunning and strange doctrines, by bringing
the wholesome word from God’s Throne.
These gifts lie dormant in the lives of some Christians who are either ignorant because they have not been properly taught, or those who are aware but are too lazy to press into God for full manifestation.
CALLING
What is calling?
Calling is the anointed way, God brings His children into ministry long before their parents met or had any thought of them. (Before the foundation of the earth, God knew and ordained us.)
Jeremiah 1:4&5 explain how God called Prophet Jeremiah.
“Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””
(Jeremiah 1:4-5 NKJV)
The gifts of men in Ephesians 4:11 are called this way. It is not the Bible College that qualifies a person for the work of the ministry, it is God’s Divine Call.
However, getting trained by anointed servants of God can also sharpen God’s call upon your life. (For example, Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy)
There are also Uncommon callings and our careers are platforms for our calling
(Esther became a queen to preserve the lives of the Jews in Medes and Persia, David was an Anointed Shepherd-King in Israel, Joseph became a Prime Minister in Egypt to provide for the Egyptians and his people during famine, Daniel and his friends also served in Babylon through God’s call upon their lives)
In conclusion, The Power of God is manifested through The Gifts of The Holy Spirit, His Anointing is portrayed in our Calling and talents, and His Nature or Character is seen in The Fruit of The Spirit that we bear. Therefore, as His Beloved children, we give Him joy when we allow Him use us for His glory because that is the very reason He created us!
