Mat 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
Mat 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
The Lord Jesus Christ likened His followers to salt and light as He taught the beatitudes.
The Beatitudes are the BE- Attitudes. The character God has and wants every one of His children to have.
Salt is a vital seasoning in cooking. It is very needful and useful for good health. When adequately added to food, its rich taste is quite noticeable but when added in smaller quantity, it becomes unnoticeable even though it is there.
Salt has many uses. For example,
* It is also used for preservation to stop decay.
* It is used as antiseptic to clean wounds and fight germs.
To mention a few.
There could not have been a better analogy for believers to know their worth on earth.
We are called to add meaningful taste to life. Preserve lives by preaching, teaching and praying for dying souls. We are to get involved spiritually and if needs be, physically in the Nation building.
God expects nothing less than excellent character from us as we lead lives worthy of emulation in all ramifications.
We are called to make contact without contamination in this world. The church ought not to be like the world in committing atrocities but to bring solutions to global problems.
Anything short of seasoning the world, makes us worthless, good for nothing but to be thrown away or trampled under foot.
As the light, we are to shine as the sun in the day and as the moon at night. Both lights can never be kindled nor quenched.
Since creation, these 2 powerful and perfect lights, Jesus likened us to, have obediently and effectively illuminated the whole earth without losing strength and value.
As no one can ever cover the glory of these great lights, neither shall anyone be able to hide or cover our glory as we shine for Christ and His Name is glorified. (Mat 5:16)
Are you indeed the salt of the earth or the light of the world?
Are you adding meaning to your immediate environment?
Can the people around you, see the Godly and positive differences in your ideals and values?
Or has your light gone dim and you are now adding to the darkness that surrounds the whole earth?
There is still hope for you in Jesus today. Take a good look at your life and ask for His help before it is too late. God bless you as you obey.
If you are already shining for Christ,
May The Lord grant you more grace to do His will.
Remain Blessed.
