Parenting According to God’s Pattern Part 1

God’s plan and purpose for creating humans, male and female (Genesis 1:27) is to raise offspring unto Him thereby extending the frontier and legacy of holiness and righteousness from generation to generation.

While many fulfill with so much passion, the command to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 2:28), only a few understand perfectly the next instruction which requires training up or raising godly children unto The Lord. Children who fear God, walk according to His counsel and will teach the generation after them.

Most people believe the latter is only for ordained servants of God who are instructed by God to teach their children to follow and obey Him. (Deuteronomy 11:18-22)

The primary responsibility of every father is to create a prayer altar and teach his family everything about God. It is mandatory!
Every father ought to know God first before he can assume this rewarding responsibility.

I dare say, if you can obey the first command “Be fruitful and multiply…” then the second one “Train up your children in the way they should go” is binding on you, Dads and Mums.

God will never give you children you are incapable of raising for Him.
However, some factors in life can affect your children and you, if care is not taken.

In this lesson, we shall be looking at these factors, with solutions to solving them as enumerated by God in His word, the bible.

Factor 1

YOU as a parent

Who you are as a parent will determine who your children will be.
Jesus said, “…..A good tree cannot bear bad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit” (Matthew 7:17-18) meaning you cannot be a lying, twisted, compromising, evil, occultic parent who does not fear nor reverence God, and expect your children to behave in a God fearing way. Whether you go to church or not, as long as they know and see those horrible vices in you daily even if the whole world does not,
they will not listen most of the time to what you say, rather they will follow your footstep, doing what you do better or worse. So, be careful what you do. Repent and follow God now, for the sake of the generations after you that you are destroying by your evil acts.

Another point is, how much time do you spend with your children especially as mothers , during the formative years of zero to eleven? Good as it is to pursue a career, you should not do it at the expense of your children’s lives and future. Remember, you could leave that job one day but the good motherly or parental love and care your children would have lacked, cannot be restored in a hurry.

It is also important for fathers to spend quality time with their children, deliberately showing them love by being involved in their lives and not just meeting their financial needs.
